Special Assistance

Travelling with children

Babies of less than seven days are not allowed to travel by air. Newborn babies older than one week will be accepted for air travel provided they are healthy and have had a normal birth.

  • Baby cots (Bassinets) on board Gulf Air flights are restricted for use by babies who are 7 (seven) months old or less at the time of travel. In addition, they must also weigh no more than 10 kilos and not exceed 27 inches in height.
Should the baby – irrespective of age and advance confirmation from the airline – exceed the set limits, our Cabin Crew will not allow the use of a bassinet as this is perceived as being unsafe and not in compliance with civil airline safety regulations.
These guidelines shall apply to new and existing bookings.
  • Don't forget to pre-reserve a bassinet on all flights during your journey, not just the first sector.
  • Unhealthy or premature babies between the ages of seven days and two years will require a doctor's clearance before being accepted for travel.
  • Special children's meals are available at no extra charge. These should be requested when booking a child's ticket or at least 24 hours before departure.
  • Gulf Air carries nappies, talcum powder and other baby supplies onboard - please ask our Flight Attendants if you forget to pack anything for your baby.
  • As part of our service, Gulf Air provides toys and games to all children travelling onboard. We have soft toys for those under two, and colouring books, pencils and other games for children aged between two and 10 years.
  • Push-chairs cannot be accepted onboard and must be checked in as baggage.
  • Gulf Air provides a unique Nanny Service on certain long-haul routes. Find further details about Sky Nanny.

Elderly passengers:

  • Gulf Air will provide escorts for elderly passengers who might need special attention during boarding, on arrival, or inflight.
  • Wheelchairs can be arranged for elderly passengers who have difficulty negotiating long distances at airport terminals.
  • Special meals can be ordered in advance to cater to dietary requirements, such as low fat, low cholesterol, diabetic, etc. These can be requested at the time of booking or at least 24 hours before departure.
  • Depending on a passenger's ability to walk, a request can be made for seating near the lavatories onboard.
  • Remember that long distance travel through different time zones and climate can exhaust elderly travellers, and take this in to consideration when making travel plans.
  • When making a reservation for travel, please give ticketing staff as much information as possible about the elderly traveller, in order that we can make arrangements for assistance where needed, particularly if they are travelling alone or for the first time.

Passengers requiring an extra seat:

In certain circumstances, a passenger may request an extra seat for his/her personal comfort or to carry cabin baggage. In the case of an over-sized passenger, they must either pay for an additional seat in Economy Class, or travel in the First or Business Class cabins where seats are more roomy.

Note: For more information, please contact your nearest Gulf Air Office.
