CHECKED BAGGAGE

Checked baggage allowances on tickets issued wholly on Gulf Air operated flights

Total weight:

  • First Class passengers:        50 kgs
  • Business Class passengers: 40 kgs
  • Economy Class passengers: 30 kgs

Children, aged 2 years and older, travelling on Gulf Air operated services, get the same checked baggage allowance as adults (within that allowance can include a child’s collapsible stroller/pushchair and a child’s car seat). Infants, aged under 2 years, get a special allowance of 10kgs for checked baggage, plus a collapsible stroller/pushchair and an infant car seat.

If you are a Gold or Silver member of the Gulf Air Frequent flyer programme, you also receive an additional baggage allowance over and above the applicable allowance for your journey, free of charge. This will be handled at the airport Customer Service staff when you present your membership details. The extra allowance when travelling on flights operated by Gulf Air is:

  • Gold – an additional 20kgs
  • Silver – an additional 15kgs

In line with IATA regulations and the legislation of many countries, no single piece of checked baggage may weigh more than 32kgs. If it exceeds 32kgs, you will be asked to repack the bag by our Customer Service staff.

Please read this notice, if you have baggage to check in for a flight with Gulf Air.

Prohibited items as baggage:

For safety reasons in the aviation industry, the carriage of certain articles is prohibited by law and must not be carried in passenger's cabin or checked baggage. Find details of the prohibited items.

TRAVELLING WITH OTHER AIRLINES ON YOUR GULF AIR TICKET

Codeshare Flights:

Passengers who purchase tickets for travel on a codeshare flight (i.e., a flight with a Gulf Air flight number, but operated by another airline) are subject to the checked baggage policy of the airline operating that flight. Learn more about all our codeshare flights.

If your ticket includes a connection to/from a codeshare flight not operated by Gulf Air, the baggage policy of the carrier operating the first segment of your itinerary applies for all flights until you reach your destination.

Example 1:

Travelling between Dubai and Amman via Bahrain:
Dubai to Bahrain - operated by Gulf Air
Bahrain to Amman with a Gulf Air flight number – but the flight operated by Royal Jordanian Airlines

The baggage rules of Gulf Air would apply to your journey from Dubai to Amman

Example 2

Gulf Air tickets issued for travel on other Airlines to/from the USA and Canada

If you purchase a Gulf Air ticket to/from the USA or Canada that involves a connection with a flight operated by another airline (for American Airlines see policy above), your free baggage allowance is based on a combination of how many piece(s) you can carry and a maximum weight per individual piece. Individual airlines have varying policies on this, please refer to their website to ensure you have the most up to date information as to your baggage allowance and any potential charges before you set out on your journey.

Gulf Air tickets issued for travel on other Airlines excluding the USA and Canada

If you purchase a Gulf Air ticket that involves a connection with a flight operated by an airline, that is not a Gulf Air codeshare partner; the baggage allowance of that operating airline applies to their flight irrespective of where you have commenced your journey. Please see the baggage allowance on the website of the airline you will be travelling on and plan accordingly.

Separate tickets or no through check-in facility to an onward destination

Please note that if you hold separate tickets for your journey or if your baggage cannot be checked through to your final destination (i.e., if you must claim your baggage due to immigration clearance or airport restrictions requiring you to recheck your baggage with your next airline), you will be subject to the applicable baggage allowance of the airline operating each flight.

EXCESS BAGGAGE CHARGES

Gulf Air as a full service carrier provides a generous baggage allowance policy for our customers. For any baggage carried over the free baggage allowances, a charge will be levied at the airport by our Customer Service staff.
