Jashanmal was founded in 1919 by Rao Sahib Jashanmal in Basra, Iraq as a general store selling many of the products that are still sold in the stores today. Expansion through the GCC followed the path of oil discovery. Today the Jashanmal Group is active across the entire GCC and in India and operates over 100 stores and through its thriving distribution and wholesale business supplies over 1,000 retailers across segments from Duty Free to Mass Market to Mid-Market and High-end Retail. They represent brands such as Davidoff tobacco, Porsche Design, Bally, Delsey, Victorinox, Rimowa luggages, Kenwood small appliances, Hoover large appliances, Yashica cameras, Cross pens, Swatch watches; Home Accessories & Crystal such Christofle, Wedgwood, Waterford, Stuart Crystals, Da Vinci Crystal, Carrs; Royal Doulton, Dankotuwa dinner-ware; Calvin Klein Underwear, Clarks, Kipling, Russel Hobbs, Nissan, Salter, Maytag, Christian Dior perfumes & cosmetics, Nina Ricci, Aigner, Escada, Dunhill, Gucci, Davidoff, Calvin Klein and Cerruti perfumes. Other areas of activities include OCS courier services, newspaper and magazine distribution and the operation of a chain of Jashanmal Bookstores. The Group also holds equity in various Joint Ventures, most recently with Burberry PLC to operate the Burberry outlets and wholesale business in the GCC.
