The vision for Language Direct began in 2004, when Harvard alumnus ('99) Cillín Perera [kiliːn pɜr'ɛərə] developed a solution to meet the needs of a German businessman who had the challenge of finding a French teacher to visit his company in the Black Forest, Germany. Very quickly, Cillín found himself spending less and less time on his English teaching and more time developing the Language Direct concept.
From what had started as a spare-room project, Language Direct GmbH was founded in Basel, Switzerland in 2006. In just a few short years since, the company has emerged as a worldwide leader in language solutions, offering instruction in over 40 languages, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, via a unique telephone and internet learning system.
Language Direct offers students the flexibility to learn when and where they like. Lessons can be taken at home, in the office, or on the road, and are always delivered by a private, native-speaking tutor.
