Minister of Works
H.E. Mr. Essam Bin Abdulla Khalaf was appointed Minister of Works, after serving as Assistant Undersecretary for Roads from 2005 until October 2010.
Mr. Essam designed and supervised a number of Road and Sewerage projects as well as traffic safety and engineering projects. He joined the Ministry in 1978 as a trainee engineer and was appointed as Planning Engineer in 1981. He rose through the ranks until he was appointed Assistant Undersecretary for Roads and Sewerage in 2002. Additionally, he was also responsible for the Coordination and Monitoring Committee with the Municipal councils.
Mr. Essam is a Board Member of the following organizations:
- Hawar Island Development Board
- Junior Board in the Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs.
- Traffic Board
- Civil Defense Board
Mr. Essam holds a Bachelor in Civil Engineering from Texas University at Austin , USA (1978), a Master Degree in Transportation Planning from Virginia Tech and State University (1981). He also holds Diploma in Advanced Management Administration from University of Bahrain (1985) with honors. He is an active member in many international professional organizations such as International Road Federation (IRF) in the United States. He is also a graduate member of the institute of Civil Engineers in the UK, and a member in the Institute of Transportation Engineers in the US. Mr. Essam is author and co-author of a number of technical papers presented in a number of Roads and Traffic International Conferences.
